In the fight against climate change, Hilfswerk International implements programs in Colombia and Mozambique focused on conservation, reforestation, and sustainable watershed management. We promote climate-resilient agriculture and improve access to nutritious food in rural communities. A key priority is the protection of ecosystems such as mangroves and rainforests. We employ community-based approaches to preserve these valuable natural resources while strengthening local resilience to climate-related challenges.
Through diversifying income sources and enhancing resilience to extreme weather events, we help communities better adapt to climate change. Furthermore, we emphasize biodiversity conservation and the sustainable management of water resources, such as in Colombia. These efforts contribute to long-term food security and livelihoods while creating new opportunities for rural populations.
For example, in the Guaviare province of Colombia, Hilfswerk International collaborated with stakeholders to integrate environmental education into school curricula. Indigenous children now learn about rainforest protection as part of their education. In Mozambique, our program aims to restore mangrove forests, with nurseries already established to cultivate 100,000 seedlings. Children are a key target group in this initiative, learning through workshops about the importance of mangroves for the local ecosystem and their role in protecting these vital habitats.
