Environmental Protection and Food Security

The sensitive ecosystem in Colombia is at risk! By massive deforestation, on the other hand, the rainforest disappears, on the other hand important water sources are becoming increasingly polluted. The sufferers are the people who thus largely lose their important sources of food.

Through so-called integrated farming, we help people implement approaches directly from the population. Innovative approaches to food security, income sources and climate protection with indigenous peasants and the relief organization International Team are designed and implemented in workshops to promote cultural knowledge exchange. In this way we ensure a wide range of nutrition for the rural population as well as the indigenous people of Colombia.

• Food safety: In order to secure food, we produce vegetable gardens for the cultivation of various domestic vegetable varieties (bananas, yuca, beans, corn, etc.). This increases the availability of healthy and organic food.
• Protection of water: Grounds are enclosed and reforested around the river basins. Thus the awareness about the importance of water protection is promoted.
• Interculturalism: Hilfswerk International promotes interculturalism between peasants and indigenous people, since the problem of water supply is equally affected. We initiate workshops in which the groups can learn from each other and benefit from each other
