In the Hatay region of Türkiye, the drinking water supply was working perfectly before the devastating earthquake in February 2023. However, the effects of the earthquake caused serious damage to the infrastructure. Today, the residents of the Hatay region face an acute problem: the drinking water supply has collapsed, and people sometimes have to queue for hours to get drinking water. This water crisis exacerbated the humanitarian situation, especially for the poorest of the population. In addition, water is often distributed in plastic bottles, which has become a serious environmental problem.
Our goal is to set up a total of 15 water stations in the region to provide the population with processed and clean water. In these water stations, the available water from the water system is cleaned in two phases, both chemically and biologically to make it drinkable again.
A single water station can handle an impressive 10,000 liters of water daily which is enough to provide 5,000 survivors of the earthquake with vital drinking water.
The training of technical personnel for the installation and maintenance of these water stations ensures that the drinking water supply is guaranteed in the long term.
The installation and maintenance of one water station in Hatay, Türkiye costs 9,000 euros. With this we can directly help 5,000 survivors of the earthquake to improve their health and to preserve their dignity.
